HOW TO INSTALL METAL PLANTS, METAL YARD ART
With the popularity of metal garden art or metal plant art along with the tighter water restrictions being mandated across certain states on the West coast comes the "how to" when installing these beautiful pieces of art.
Locate the area within your yard you would like to install the plants / metal garden art, set the metal plants in these areas to get an idea of what the plants will look like. If you are happy with the location lets begin the install process.
1. If you have turf you will want to make a cut in the turf where the plants will be installed. Make the cut large enough to work in the area as you will be digging a hole large enough to fit the base of the plants within the dirt. If you have small ground covering landscape rock move the rock aside and prepare to dig a hole as noted in step two.
2. The hole should be approximately 8" in depth, deep enough to fit the base of the plant so that the bottom of the plant rest at ground height.
3. Place the rolled steel metal base of the plant within the hole, you can use some J shaped ground spikes which are sold at any Home Depot or Lowes stores and hammer the spikes into the dirt with the J overlapping the metal base of the plant. This will firmly push the plant metal base to the ground (use a minimum of 2 ground spikes per plant).
4. For a more permanent install pour some quickcrete / cement over the base of the plant filling the hole with cement. This makes the plant much heavier and extremely difficult for someone to steal if theft is a possible issue where the plants are being installed. If you want the plant to be very difficult to remove simply dig a larger hole and pour more cement over the base of the plant. The more cement.... the heavier the base of the plant becomes.
5. After the cement has dried fill the remaining space of the hole with dirt, cover with landscape rock and or fold the turf back over the hole and tack the turf down with spikes (long nails).
